Sabine is an outstanding teacher and guide to all things relating to classical Chinese language, medicine and culture. I had already been exposed to two years of studying Chinese language at SOAS in London (part of their degree course), followed by several years of private tuition in both medical and general Chinese, before I sought her advice on a variety of translation projects with which I was involved. Her help was invaluable, and greatly contributed to a better understanding on my part of various features of the language, as well as the medical context.

Though Sabine specializes in medical literature of the Han to Song dynasties, she has translated works ranging from the Han through to modern medical books, and so was well suited to provide guidance in my own area of interest in late Ming and Qing dynasty texts. Though gently insistent on paying attention to certain features of the language (notably grammar) she is never rigidly dogmatic, and respects individual translators’ style and approach to the medical literature.

She has also, more recently, been very generous in providing feedback and advice on articles that I have written, despite her busy schedule. Her long experience in all matters relating to publication, websites, etc., will also benefit those interested in making their work available to a wider public.

In short, Sabine is virtually unique in what she offers, and I would unhesitatingly recommend her courses to all those considering studies in classical and medical Chinese, whether beginners or those more advanced.
