Mònica Martín Prats (Spain)

It is not uncommon for acupuncturists that have been exposed to different translations of the Chinese Medicine classics to feel at some point an ever-increasing interest in being able to approach its foundational texts in its original language. Classical Chinese teachers with the high profile of Dr. Sabine are rare so I consider myself immensely lucky to have had her guidance for almost a year in learning the basics of Classical Chinese. The result happened to be much more than what I could possibly expect.

There is a historical dimension to Classical Chinese that enhances the importance of an experienced teacher cultivated in Chinese history and culture to guide in the learning path. Sabine embodies this role perfectly with an online course envisaged and designed to reach any one around the globe.

The coursework was designed following a three-step process (calligraphy, translation and reflection) to be prepared individually prior to every class. Sabine’s help and guidance makes it almost impossible to get lost. Almost like baking a cake, individual homework culminated in an academic feast in every class that fulfilled not only our interest for the language but also sparked our minds and nourished our hearts with the essence of the historical and philosophical roots that underlie the texts that served as the basis of our coursework. Sabine’s excellence as a teacher is amplified by her contagious passion and enthusiasm turning every class into a lively and stimulating learning experience. And this could only be made even better by her warmhearted approach and her interest in guiding, supporting and making sure everyone is on board!
